Storm Season

ONCE AGAIN THE ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON IS HERE

As a reminder, we cannot bind new coverage or increase amounts on property insurance on an existing risk upon issuance by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) of a Tropical Storm Watch, Tropical Storm Warning, Hurricane Watch, or Hurricane Warning for any coastal area of Florida. Binding authority will be restored as soon as the NHC lifts the storm designation for all affected Florida coastal areas.

TROPICAL STORM - An organized system of strong thunderstorms with a defined surface circulation and maximum sustained winds of 39-73 mph.

TROPICAL STORM WATCH - An announcement for a specific area that tropical storm conditions pose a possible threat to coastal areas.

TROPICAL STORM WARNING - A warning for tropical storm conditions including possible sustained winds within the range 39 to 73 miles per hour, which are expected in a specified coastal area.

HURRICANE - An intense tropical weather system of strong thunderstorms with a well-defined surface circulation and maximum sustained winds of 74 mph or higher.

HURRICANE WATCH - An announcement for a specified area that a hurricane may occur within 48-72 hours. All people in the indicated area should take stock of their preparedness requirements, keep abreast of the latest advisories and bulletins, and be ready for quick action in case a warning is issued.

HURRICANE WARNING - A warning that one or more of the following dangerous effects of a hurricane are expected in specific areas within 24 hours or less:

1. Hurricane force winds (74 mph or higher);
2. Dangerously high waters, or combination of high water and exceptionally high waves, even tough winds may be less than hurricane force.
